Binary logic operations with artificial molecular machines

چکیده
Living systems rely on ions and molecules for gathering, elaborating storing information, as well controlling motion across different length scales. Artificial mimics of such biomolecular systems, i.e., logic devices mechanical machines, have been developed in the past decades. Here we discuss their combination to produce logic-controlled nanomachines, a research that holds great potential basic science prospective applications. Systems this kind may be forerunners ‘molecular robots’ can execute specific functions result gathering processing multiple environmental stimuli.

Artificial molecular machines driven by light.
The bottom-up construction and operation of machines and motors of molecular size is a topic of great interest in nanoscience, and a fascinating challenge of nanotechnology. The problem of the energy supply to make molecular machines work is of the greatest importance. Research in the last ten years has demonstrated that light energy can be used to power artificial nanomachines by exploiting ph...
متن کاملBinary Operations
Let A be a set. A unary operation on A is a function from A into A. A binary operation on A is a function from [:A, A :] into A. We adopt the following convention: u is a unary operation on A, o, o′ are binary operations on A, and a, b, c, e, e1, e2 are elements of A. In this article we present several logical schemes. The scheme BinOpEx deals with a non empty set A and a ternary predicate P , ...
متن کاملGreat expectations: can artificial molecular machines deliver on their promise?
The development and fabrication of mechanical devices powered by artificial molecular machines is one of the contemporary goals of nanoscience. Before this goal can be realized, however, we must learn how to control the coupling/uncoupling to the environment of individual switchable molecules, and also how to integrate these bistable molecules into organized, hierarchical assemblies that can pe...
متن کاملFractal globules: a new approach to artificial molecular machines.
The over-damped relaxation of elastic networks constructed by contact maps of hierarchically folded fractal (crumpled) polymer globules was investigated in detail. It was found that the relaxation dynamics of an anisotropic fractal globule is very similar to the behavior of biological molecular machines like motor proteins. When it is perturbed, the system quickly relaxes to a low-dimensional m...
